“School

SCHOOL FOR WIVES - MOLIERE
The Jerusalem Post, 1987, Pamela Katz
|

|

"Laszlo
Marton's production of 'The School for Wives' is a triumph of theatrical
imagination and human insight... With his ear to the heart of the
play, Marton hears Moliere in every role and weaves together those
separate voices to re-create his inner world - the mind as mirror
- onstage.
A
warm directorial hand cradles all the various production elements
together, grounding set, costumes, lighting, music and performance
style in the voice of the play.

“This
is a splendid example of bringing traditional subject on to the
stage in a way which interests the modern viewer… It is completely
free from tradition, however, at the same time it justifies the
author, it is striking and fluently proceeding and it has been a
school for the performers, too.”
“Moliere
was taken as a living author. The tradition was ignored as if one
had never even heard of it. Decisions made in the production were
original yet based on the text… The Hungarians do what they promise.
It is welcome!"

Mirandolina,
Milwaukee Repertory Theatre 2009

'Mirandolina'
has that Rep magic
The Milwaukee Repertory Theater's new production of "Mirandolina"
is a calorie-free visit to an ice cream shop. Everything is
so tempting and delectable.
Don't be put off by the comedy's setting, a small inn in 18th-century
Tuscany, or its creator, Italian dramatist Carlo Goldoni, a
product of the same era. Human nature doesn't change, and neither
do the Rep's remarkably consistent high production standards.
The show, which opened during the weekend, is a sublime delight. |
