László
Marton (DLA), Resident Professor of the Academy of Dramatic Art,
Budapest and his masterclasses from Helsinki to Toronto
Since
1979 he has been a professor at the Academy of Dramatic Art (Budapest).
In 1992 the President of Hungary, Mr Arpad Goncz titled him Resident
Professor of the Academy of Dramatic Art. In 1999 he achieved the
DLA (Doctor of Liberal Arts).
He
is a devoted and passionate teacher. There are many of his former
students who won international awards for their acting achievements:
Börcsök Enikõ, Rudolf Péter, Hernádi Judit. Remarkably lot
of members of the new generation of actors regard him as their master,
and not just in Hungary.
Paralel
with his directing work abroad, he engaged himself in professional
actor training workshops from Helsinki to Toronto. Starting his
foreign teachings in Germany in 1974 and 1975, he continued in Helsinki
at the Academy of Dramatic Art of Finland.
For
four seasons Mr Marton held workshops in Vancouver focusing on memorable
theatre classics. This project was followed by one of the most interesting
challanges of Marton’s teaching career: he had workshops in London
at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he directed Hungarian
dramatic works.
“The
idea of Guildhall School of Music and Drama to open the four week
Barbican Centre’s Hungarian Festival “Magyarok - Britain Salutes Hungary” by getting Laszlo Marton of the Budapest
Vigszinhaz to direct the London premiere of The Horse, by Gyula
Hay, was wholly admirable.

However,
here it is given an eyecatching production by dedicated 32 strong
cast required to act, mime, sing, prance (like horses) and move
in obedience to a visiting Hungarian director’s scheme of things.”
